Managing Data Segments
The Data Segments page includes a list of defined segments. Go to Admin > Global > Data Segmentation.
You can view all or only those with pending changes using the options above the table. Pending changes are drafts that were created but not published in the system. Use the search field above the table to find a specific segment. Search is not case sensitive.
Note
Organizations can have a maximum of 2000 segments.
Editing Existing Segments
You can edit data segments to reassign users or to add or remove objects.
- On the Data Segments page, use the search field to locate the segment that you would like to edit.
- Select the segment’s dropdown arrow, then select the version you want to update.
- If you selected a published segment, you are routed to the Review page. Review information about the segment, including the users that it includes and the Access Model Administration information, such as which objects are included. To make changes to a published segment, select Create Draft at the top right.
- If you selected a draft segment, you are routed to the Data Segment Definition page where you can edit the draft.
- Selecting the Delete icon prompts a confirmation box, where you can cancel or confirm the action.
- Edit the draft, then select Save.
Publishing Segments
By default, when a new segment is created it is in Draft status. It is not live until you publish. To review all draft segments, go to the Data Segments page and select Pending Changes above the table at the left. You can publish all data segments that are currently in draft status by selecting Publish All Drafts at the top right.
Published segments retain the enablement status they had before they were published. Those that were enabled remain enabled and those that were disabled remain disabled. Unpublished segments and edited versions of published segments are not applied unless they are published and enabled.
You can discard unpublished changes or published segments by selecting the data segment dropdown, then selecting the Delete icon next to the version you want to delete.
Enabling and Disabling Segments
You need to enable data segments before they are applied to your implementation. You may also need to disable segments; for example, you may have multiple segments that overlap and want to turn off some in favor of using others. Some use cases where admins may want to adjust what is published and enabled or disabled include:
Use case
Enabled | Disabled | |
---|---|---|
Published | I want this segment to be applied to all users now. | I want this segment not to be applied to users, but I may have use for it in the future. |
Unpublished | I want this segment to be automatically enabled when I select Apply All Changes and take effect immediately. | I want this segment not to be applied automatically when I select Apply All Changes. |
Outcome
Enabled | Disabled | |
---|---|---|
Published | Is applied to users | Not applied to users |
Unpublished | Not applied to users | Not applied to users |
To disable or enable a data segment:
- Go to Admin > Global > Data Segmentation.
- On the Data Segments page, use the search field to locate the segment that you would like to disable or enable.
- In the Status column, use the toggle to switch the segment to Disabled or Enabled.
