Metadata Campaigns

You can use metadata campaigns to keep information on objects such as roles and entitlements accurate, current, and useful. Metadata campaigns provide a structured way for designated reviewers to review, confirm, or update object attributes, such as ownership and description.

By regularly validating metadata, organizations can ensure that this information remains accurate and supports governance requirements.

Note

Currently, metadata campaigns can be run for roles and entitlements to validate their Owner and Description attributes.

How Metadata Campaigns Work

The metadata review process includes these actions:

  1. A Meta Campaign Officer defines the campaign requirements and schedules a campaign. Refer to Scheduling Metadata Campaigns.
  2. The campaign organizes selected object attributes into metadata reviews and routes them to the appropriate reviewers.

Each metadata review is a set of review items assigned to one reviewer.

  3. During the metadata review, a reviewer can:

    • Validate the current value.
    • Update the attributes when the current value is incorrect.
    • Reassign review items when another reviewer should make the decision.
    • Sign off on the review after all items have a decision.

Refer to Working with Metadata Reviews.

  4. After the review is signed off, a Perform Maintenance (System Maintenance) task run applies the signed values to the reviewed objects. The same task moves the campaign to the Complete state after all reviews from the campaign are signed off. For more information, refer to System Maintenance.

Metadata Campaign Schedules

You can run metadata campaigns on demand or schedule them to run at regular intervals.

Recurring campaigns help you keep metadata accurate over time.

On-demand campaigns are useful when metadata needs validation outside the regular schedule, such as when newly onboarded entitlements require immediate review.

Metadata Campaign Types

IdentityIQ supports two types of metadata campaigns, each targeting a different object type for metadata review:

  • Entitlement Metadata - Targets entitlements. Reviewers can validate the current Owner and Description values or update them.
  • Role Metadata - Targets roles. Reviewers can validate the current Owner and Description values or update them.

Metadata Campaign Administration

Access to metadata campaigns is controlled by the following two capabilities:

Capability Permissions
Meta Campaign Officers
  • Can create and edit campaigns.
  • Can manage campaign schedules.
  • Can activate or cancel staged campaigns.
  • Can view completed campaigns.
  • Can view metadata reviews in read-only mode.
  • Can run metadata review reports.
Meta Campaign Administrators
  • Can monitor metadata reviews, forward reviews to other users, reassign review items, validate review items, and sign off on a review if the assigned reviewer cannot do it.
  • Can run metadata review reports.
  • Can view campaign summary from a metadata review.
