Integrating SailPoint with M-Files

M-Files is an intelligent information management platform that helps organizations manage documents, workflows, and business processes. It organizes information based on metadata rather than traditional folder structures, making it easier to locate, manage, and secure documents. This document provides instructions to configure a new direct connection to a M-Files source. For a reference to the terminology specific to SailPoint products, refer to Source and Connector Definitions.

Supported Features

The M-Files connector supports the following:

Account Management

  • Aggregate Accounts

Entitlement Management

  • Aggregate Departments

Important

Quick Compliance connectors have the following manual aggregation limits within a 24-hour period:

  • Organization Admins: Limited to 3 manual account or entitlement aggregations per day per source. This limit is cumulative across all admins in the organization.

  • Regular Users: Limited to 1 manual account or entitlement aggregation per day per source.

These limits ensure that individual compliance statuses are kept up to date while maintaining continuous compliance monitoring. If you need to run additional aggregations beyond these limits, contact SailPoint Support.

Prerequisites

Ensure the following prerequisites are met before proceeding with the configuration:

  • You have access to an active M-Files environment (M-Files Cloud or M-Files Server) where the REST API is enabled.

  • You have the Base URL of the M-Files environment. This is the endpoint used by SailPoint to communicate with the M-Files REST API. For example, https://<tenant>.cloudvault.m-files.com.

  • You have valid M-Files user credentials (username and password) that can authenticate through the REST API.

  • You have the Vault GUID of the M-Files vault that the connector will access. This identifier is required to retrieve users, departments, and other metadata from the vault.

    Note
    It is recommended to use a dedicated service account for the SailPoint integration instead of a personal user account. For more information, refer Authenticating to the M-Files Web Service.

Required Permissions

  • The credentials used for the SailPoint integration must belong to a valid M-Files user account that has permission to access users and metadata in the target vault through the M-Files REST API. For more information, refer Value list permissions.
